Amherst Court retains Outstanding rating after impressing inspectors with strong leadership

A care home in Medway, Kent has retained its Outstanding rating after impressing inspectors with its strong leadership and responsiveness to residents’ needs.

Amherst Court in Chatham, Medway, which is owned and operated by Avante Care & Support, offers care for older people living with dementia.

Following a recent inspection, CQC has rated the Amherst Court as Outstanding, three years on from the home’s first Outstanding rating recognition in April 2015.

As part of the report, inspectors spoke to residents, relatives, staff members and health and social care professionals to gain an insight into the business.

The report said: “Staff had an excellent understanding of people’s needs and were imaginative in the way they provided person centred care which put people at the heart of the service. They continue to find creative ways of supporting people to have an exceptional quality of life.”

CQC also noted the directors, management team and staff remain driven by their passion for caring for people, including those with dementia, saying: “Leaders in the service promoted person centred values. Team leaders and care staff were well informed about their roles and they described in detail how they provided support to new staff so that they understood the core values and how to care for people”.

The report described how there was a person-centred culture at the service, with care planned around each individual.

Stuart Cross, managing director, Avante Care & Support said: “Amherst Court was the first care home in Medway to receive an Outstanding rating from CQC in April 2015 and I am absolutely delighted the home continues to be rated as Outstanding. Only 2% of homes across the country have this accolade and it is testimony to the hard work and commitment of our dedicated staff.”
