Care homes managed by Central Bedfordshire Council are introducing electronic medical administration records (eMAR) systems thanks to a new partnership with Smarta Healthcare.

Smarta Healthcare is implementing the system, where the firm’s will be taking care of ordering, collecting and delivering prescriptions, while supporting staff as they continue to provide high quality care to all residents.

Harjinder Singh, Managing Director of Smarta Healthcare, said: “Smarta Healthcare prides itself on delivering quality, cost effective medication management for NHS Trusts, care homes and individual patients throughout Bedfordshire and within other key locations across the UK.

“We are delighted to have formed this new partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council and are already making excellent progress in working closely with the team to implement the Omnicell eMAR system, which will enable the group to save both time, cost and resource whilst delivering accurate medication management to all patients.”

The eMAR system gives every resident medication a unique barcode which, when scanned, locates the patients’ medical history, including details of any allergies and what medication they should be taking, together with details of the correct dosage.

The system also successfully supports the management of controlled drugs, highlighting missed or incomplete medication rounds, reducing the risk of potential medical errors, therefore, enabling the medication process in care homes to become safer, simpler and more compliant.

So far, the Smarta Healthcare team have helped three care homes implement the new system, with a further three care homes in the process of transitioning.

Rachel Cadd, Operations Manager of Central Bedfordshire Care Homes, added: “The safety and wellbeing of all our residents is paramount and the use of this technology can only improve our service and ensure we remain compliant in all areas. Innovation is key to improving the quality of care we deliver in our homes and for staff development.”

Founded in 2015, Smarta Healthcare has established long-term relationships within NHS Trusts, care homes and individual patients throughout Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and across the UK.
