Call bell tied up and out of reach at ‘inadequate’ Four Seasons care home

A family member has told the CQC that their loved one’s call bell was “routinely tied up out of reach” at an ‘inadequate’ care home.

Bebington Care Home in the Wirral, Merseyside, which is run by Four Seasons, was given the CQC’s lowest rating following a visit by inspectors in March.

The damning report by inspectors found “insufficient” permanent staff members, medicines not managed safely, and accidents and incidents not being adequately reported.

While one relative told inspectors that staff were “very pleasant”, another reported that agency nurses said “they don’t know what’s going on”.

In its previous inspection the CQC identified that call bells had not been made available for people in their rooms. In its latest inspection, the CQC found that the situation had not improved with a relative commenting that their family member’s call bell had been routinely tied up and out of reach.

A Four Seasons spokesperson said: “We regret that Bebington Care Home has fallen below the high standards that we expect and that the CQC requires. We take our responsibilities as a care provider seriously and have thoroughly reviewed the findings of the latest inspection report. We have put in place a comprehensive action plan and are fully supporting the home to ensure this is delivered.”
