Care England calls for homes to apply for Teaching Care Home Programme

Care England, the largest representative body for independent providers of adult social care, has encouraged care homes to apply to be part of the Teaching Care Home Programme.

Building on the success of the scheme over the last two years, the Foundation of Nursing Studies will recruit five care homes within England in the autumn, with a focus on enhancing cross system partnership working.

The objective of the Teaching Care Homes programme is to develop a geographically spread network of homes that can demonstrate an ongoing commitment to person-centred care and ways of working.

The scheme also aims to ensure that centres are for learning, practice development and research and actively engage with staff, students, residents and the wider community.

The initiative sets out to solidify strong working relationships with academic and education providers.

Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, says: “The programme was set up with a view to recognise the issues of recruitment and retention of both registered nurses and carers.  It attempts to raise the profile of long term social care as an exciting, rewarding and forward thinking career choice.
