Care home staff suspended as Met investigates abuse allegations

Five staff have been suspended at Garside House in Pimlico with the Metropolitan Police investigating care home abuse allegations.
The action was taken against the home, which is run by Sanctuary Group, after a whistle-blower raised concerns about the treatment of some residents.
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: “On Tuesday 22 October, police were made aware of allegations relating to the treatment of residents at Garside House nursing home in Pimlico.
“An investigation is under way, working with partner agencies including Westminster city council and the Care Quality Commission.”
Garside House was rated Requires Improvement by the CQC following an inspection in January.
Cllr Heather Acton, Cabinet Member for Family Services and Public Health, said: “The wellbeing of all our residents is at the heart of everything we do. As soon as we were informed of the serious allegations regarding the level of care at Garside House we, working with our partners, took immediate action.
“Several members of staff at the home have been suspended and we have brought in additional trusted staff from the council and our partners to oversee the care being provided. We’ve also made sure those at the home and their family members are being kept informed.
“Given the ongoing police investigation, we are not able to comment further at this stage, nor prejudge the outcome of the investigation. We shall be considering carefully the next steps on future arrangements. The safety and care of our residents remains our priority.”
A spokesperson for Sanctuary Group told CHP: “While we can’t comment on an on-going investigation, as an organisation that prides itself on delivering the highest standards of care, we take these concerns extremely seriously.
“We will continue to strive to enrich the lives of every resident living in these homes.”
