Minister for Care Caroline Dinenage has hailed the success of a national social care recruitment drive and pledged a further £4m to support the campaign in 2019-20.

The government launched the ‘Every day is different campaign’ in February with the aim of filling the 110,000 vacancies in social care.

The minister told CHP: “Our national adult social care recruitment campaign ‘Every Day Is Different’ showcased how rewarding and varied social care careers can be and matched applicants with potential jobs

“The campaign was highly successful in raising awareness of and interest in working in the sector. One in four care staff surveyed reported an increase in enquiries, interviews or vacancies filled, and there were over 20,000 more clicks on applications for relevant jobs on the DWP Find a Job site.”

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) reported a 14% (21,083) rise in applications for care or carer roles during the campaign compared with the year earlier period on the DWP Find a Job site, of which 8,560 came from the campaign’s website.

Job searches for care and carer roles on DWP Find a Job rose by 97% over the same period.

A further 29% of 20-39 year olds in the C1, C2, D social grade categories said they had a considered a career in social care in the last three months, compared with 27% before the campaign launched.

The DHSC said consideration was much higher from those who recognised the campaign (46%) versus those who did not (17%).

The DHSC is inviting recruiters to send in their examples of how the campaign has helped them.
