EXCLUSIVE: New Care boss blames ‘political posturing’ for planning refusal

New Care CEO Chris McGoff has hit back at a local authority’s decision to refuse planning permission for a new 65-bed care home.

The New Care boss (pictured) told CHP he was “bitterly disappointed” by the unanimous refusal by Cheshire East’s planning committee after the scheme was initially recommended by the council’s planning officers.

Chris said: “New Care is bitterly disappointed to have received an adverse Committee decision, despite working hard with the Planning Officer to shape a scheme that encouraged his very positive recommendation.

“We feel we are the victim of political posturing at local election time and whilst we feel it’s totally unfair to be caught up in this situation and for Wilmslow elderly residents to be deprived of new generation, fit for purpose facilities, this is our planning system and we have to work within the often flawed process.”

New Care had sought to take on board opposition from the members of the council and local community by scaling down the scale of the project from 83 beds to 69 and then to the final submission of 65 beds.

The scheme was finally refused on the grounds of the impact on neighbouring properties, overdevelopment of the site, the under-provision of parking, and the impact of the development on the street scene.

Chris said there was a “huge shortfall” of quality beds in the Wilmslow area adding a “perfect storm” was brewing due to care homes being forced to close because of high operational costs.

New Care said it was challenging the council’s decision.
