A former Four Seasons who was previously convicted of ill treatment and wilful neglect has been struck off by the Nursery and Midwifery Council.

Beverley Thompson, who was convicted of four offences under the Mental Health Act in November 2018, was struck off and given an interim suspension order.

The charges against Miss Thompson relate to her employment as a staff nurse on the dementia unit of Livingston Care Home in September and October 2017.

The hearing heard how Miss Thompson left a resident feeling “distressed” after pushing her as she walked with a zimmer frame to get to her bedroom.

In other incidents, Miss Thompson was witnessed using her knee and leg to pin a resident against a chair and repeatedly grab and manhandle another vulnerable person.

Following a hearing at Livingston Sheriff Court on November 2018, Miss Thompson was sentenced to a community payback order with a supervision period of 12 months and a requirement to complete 200 hours of unpaid work or activities.

Making its striking off order, the NMC concluded: “Miss Thompson’s conduct, as highlighted by the facts found proved, was a significant departure from the standards expected of a registered nurse. The panel noted that such a serious breach of the fundamental tenets of the profession evidenced by Miss Thompson’s actions is incompatible with her remaining on the register.”

A Four Seasons spokesperson said: “We were deeply shocked, saddened and concerned by the actions of this former employee, which have no place in our home, where our team work hard every day to deliver a high standard of care for our residents. We fully supported the investigations undertaken by the relevant authorities and dismissed this employee as a result of their findings. We welcome the action taken by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and sincerely apologise to those residents who were affected by her actions.”
