Fonthill House nursing and residential care home in St Albans has retained its CQC Outstanding rating following an inspection in June.

The nursing home, which accommodates up to 64 people, achieved the CQC’s top rating in four out of five categories.

Nathan Tomkinson, Owner of Fonthill House, said: “We are delighted to be once again rated Outstanding by CQC. Out of 15,458 Care Homes in England, only 3.7% are rated Outstanding and only 1.48% in Hertfordshire, a real testament to the passion and dedication of the staff at Fonthill House.”

The St Albans care home was previously awarded Beacon status by the Gold Standards Framework, acknowledging the demonstrated innovation and high quality of their end of life care and support.

As part of its inspection the CQC looked at thank you letters regarding the end of life support care provided by the home.

The CQC said the letters “told a story of outstanding kindness and care that remained with and left a positive feeling for the families going forward. The staff provided great care during and after with families receiving support during these difficult times”.

One resident said: “The staff are looking after us as real people, we can feel that we matter to them,” while a family member added: “Your care home is astonishing. Your staff are beyond belief. So caring, so loving, so kind.”
