Minchenden Lodge is Southgate, North London is celebrating its first Outstanding rating following a CQC inspection.

The Scimitar Care Hotels service, which supports up to 25 older people, including those living with dementia, joined the top 4% adult social care services following an inspection in August.

Lisa Coombs, Registered Manager at Minchenden Lodge, said: “Receiving Outstanding from the CQC is a momentous achievement that is the result of the commitment and hard work that all the team have put in to ensuring that our residents receive the love, care and quality of life that they deserve.

“There is a cohesive belief at Minchenden, that every individual can positively impact somebody’s life on a daily basis, whether it is a resident, a friend, a colleague or a loved one and it is this sincere desire to improve the life of others that has made this recognition an achievement that has warmed the hearts of us all.”

The CQC said staff were exceptionally caring and supportive, whilst constantly looking for ways to improve the service and ensure residents received the outstanding care they deserved. Activities were truly person centred which created an atmosphere of vibrancy and joy within the service.

It was noted that the service was exceptionally well-led, with the Registered Manager demonstrating how an open and supportive management style along with a robust quality assurance system promoted a high quality of care that empowered both residents and staff alike. Residents and staff both remarked how they felt valued and supported whilst at the home.

Several initiatives were recognised as outstanding by the CQC, including one that focused on wish lists created for residents where an individual’s lifelong dreams and ambitions were identified and opportunities developed to help fulfil them. This showed the level of tailored, individualised care being provided at the service.

Luke Sargeant, Operations Director for Scimitar Care Hotels PLC said: “We are delighted that the CQC have recognised the outstanding level of service offered to our residents by our committed, compassionate staff. This commitment stems from every aspect of the service – be it care delivery, catering, housekeeping or management – each and every member of staff at the home recognises and rejoices in the difference they make to people’s lives every single day.

“The report highlights how satisfied residents, their relatives and the staff are at the hotel which is a source of considerable gratification. We will continue to develop our service, both at Minchenden and across the rest of the Scimitar Care Hotel group, so that similar results are achieved across the board and continue into the future.”
