Nursing home provider launches work experience programme

Leading care provider Morris Care has launched a work experience programme for students at four Shropshire nursing homes.

A dozen teenagers from Concord College are spending afternoons each week joining residents in activities, including arts and crafts, music and cookery.

Sue Austin, Chief Operating Officer, said: “The students are all hoping to pursue careers in the medical care sector. This is an ideal opportunity to learn about care in a practical way and demonstrate their empathy. Our residents benefit too as they enjoy the interaction and energy from young people.

“Our regular social activities are a great way of engaging residents, getting them involved and bringing back happy memories.”

The programme is being run at Isle Court and Radbrook in Shrewsbury, Oldbury Grange, Bridgnorth, and Stretton Hall, All Stretton.

Morris Care has developed links in the community with schools to encourage visits. This is the first time it has provided work experience in this sustained way.

It has been delivering outstanding care for nearly 30 years and operates six homes in Shropshire and Cheshire.
