Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a close encounter with a feathered friend during a visit to a London nursing home.

The encounter came during the PM’s tour of Canford Healthcare’s Parkfield House in Uxbridge where he witnessed first-hand the benefits of the HenPower dementia scheme he was instrumental in launching while Mayor of London.

Canford Healthcare chief operating officer Laird Mackay said: “It was our great pleasure to host a visit by Mr Johnson, who is our local MP as well as Prime Minister. We hope that he was able to see the great work that is being done here at Parkfield House, and also witness at first hand the continuing benefits of his HenPower initiative.”

The HenPower scheme which enables residents living with dementia to regularly engage and look after hens, has proved very popular and successful at Parkfield.

Parkfield House offers nursing, dementia, respite and residential care for up to 44 residents. In May 2019 CQC rated the home as Good overall and Outstanding in the Responsive category, reflecting a flexible approach to individual choice and continuity of care.
