Police in Northern Ireland are continuing to investigate alleged abuse at Dunmurry Manor Care Home.

The service, which is operated by Runwood Homes, was the subject of a report by the Commissioner for Older People in Northern Ireland, Eddie Lynch, earlier this year.

A Police Service of Norther Ireland (PSNI) spokesperson said: “Detectives from PSNI Public Protection Branch continue to investigate allegations concerning the treatment and care provided to residents at Dunmurry Manor Care Home.

“As the investigation has progressed, naturally new lines of enquiry have been identified and more families are coming forward to speak to us about their loved ones’ experience.

“From the outset we have been clear that the investigation will go wherever the evidence takes us.”

The investigation was launched in August in the wake of the Commissioner’s report.

A spokesperson for Runwood Homes Senior Living said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on any investigation but we can give clear and robust assurances that as an organisation we continue to work in an open and transparent manner at all times with all involved agencies.

“It is most encouraging that the home continues to deliver good quality nursing and residential care every day, and as recently as last week has been subject to a further unannounced regulatory inspection with zero areas of concern identified.

“We continue to work very hard despite the adverse and inaccurate reporting and this is testament to the dedicated, loyal and professional staff employed at the service.”

An RQIA spokesperson said: “In November RQIA conducted an unannounced medicines management inspection at Dunmurry Manor, where we found good practice in relation to medicines management.  Patients and their relatives also spoke positively about staff at the home and the care provided. RQIA continues to monitor Dunmurry Manor through our ongoing regulatory activities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone living at this home.”
