Signature Senior Lifestyle celebrates first CQC outstanding rating

Coombe Hill Manor in Kingston Upon Thames has become the first Signature Senior Lifestyle home to achieve CQC ‘outstanding’.
The service, which provides personal care and support for up to 104 older people, joined the top 3% of adult social care services following an inspection in November.
Sonya Fenwick, General Manager, said: ”I am enormously proud of the whole team. We strongly believe in providing exceptional care, delivered by compassionate staff. This is the resident’s home and we have the privilege to share this time with them.
“We advocate independence and encourage residents to be involved in all aspect of the home, even down to choosing the carpet. We welcome feedback and all managers practice an open-door policy ensuring we have a free flow of ideas from staff and feedback from the residents. Being awarded ‘outstanding’ by CQC is a testament of the continued commitment of all staff at Coombe Hill Manor and we are very proud of some of the remarks contained within the report.”
Debbie Ivanova, Deputy Chief Inspector, Adult Social Care, said: “Coombe Hill Manor is an exceptionally caring service. Management and staff deserve fulsome praise for the work that they do. The many and varied activities enjoyed by people at Coombe Hill are impressive as is the use of technology to encourage people to keep in contact with friends, relatives and the outside world in general.”
The CQC highlighted how the use of comfort dolls at the service’s dementia unit helped a resident eat without distress. Inspectors also praised the service’s strong links with the local community, which include hosting a regular toddler play group.
A resident’s family member commented: “Sonya and her team were outstanding. From the moment my mother arrived in November 2015 she was looked after amazingly. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.”
