Three care workers have been sacked for sharing a video allegedly showing an elderly nursing home patient being laughed at.

The footage, which was shared on social media, was filmed at Qualia Care’s Hillside Care Home in Huyton, Merseyside (see Care workers suspended over ‘abhorrent’ mocking video).

A Qualia Care spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo: “Three individuals have today been dismissed. We have been overwhelmed by the support shown to the home from residents and their families.

“The nearly 80 staff remaining do a caring and professional job and are as horrified by the actions of these individuals as everyone else.”

A CQC spokesman said: “On 8 November CQC received concerning video footage taken inside Hillside Care Home in Huyton. CQC inspectors responded by immediately attending the home to conduct a comprehensive inspection, to ensure people are safe and well cared for.

“Everyone receiving care is entitled to be treated with proper respect and dignity and CQC has a range of enforcement powers to protect people and hold registered providers to account.

“Inspectors are working very closely with Knowsley council in relation to the incident.

“The inspection report will be published in due course.”

Knowsley Council said it could not comment while investigations were ongoing.
