Four Seasons to stop running Aberdeen care home following closure warning

Four Seasons Healthcare has announced plans to stop running its Banks O’Dee care home in Aberdeen.

The provider announced it would stop running the home after it was threatened with closure by the Care Inspectorate earlier this month (see Four Seasons care home ordered to make ‘urgent improvements’ or face closure).

Amanda Cunningham, Chief Operating Officer, said:  “Our proposal to cease operating Banks O’ Dee has been reached reluctantly. It is because we have been concerned for some time that the home has not been meeting the standards that we expect our homes to provide and that the Care Inspectorate requires.

“The operational challenges have been exacerbated by difficulties in recruiting and retaining staff with the right skills in the tight local jobs market. This has necessitated high use of temporary agency staff who, although they are appropriately qualified, are not familiar with our policies and procedures and do not know the residents as well as our permanent staff. We take very seriously our responsibilities as a care provider and we think ceasing to operate the home is the right thing to do rather than see it continue to struggle.”

The home was issued with an improvement notice by the Care Inspectorate last month following a complaint and inspection which raised serious concerns, which included insufficient staffing at the service.

Four Seasons said it would be working with Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership to support residents and their families transfer to other services.
