A care home that has partnered with Bristol University on promoting LGBT rights has retained its CQC Outstanding rating.

Deerhurst Care Home, which is run by Brunelcare, achieved Outstanding in four categories, following an inspection in August.

The CQC said: “People constantly told us that staff were exceptionally kind, caring and compassionate. Health and social care professionals told us staff were exceptional in the way in which they provide care and support.

“There was a strong culture of person centred care. Staff in all roles were motivated to ensure people have the best day possible and all understood how their roles and interactions contributed to people’s wellbeing. The registered manager and provider were deeply involved in all aspects of the running of the home and provided their team with excellent leadership.”

Lesley Hobbs, who has been the care home’s manager for 13 years, said: “We are thrilled to have retained our Outstanding rating from CQC, everyone works so hard and are incredibly proud to be part of such a great community and family! Every single person involved at Deerhurst can take credit for this great report, without them it would not be possible to achieve this outcome.”

Deerhurst, which has had no agency workers for 10 years, is a participant in the ‘care under the rainbow’ project which is designed to develop inclusive care homes for the elderly LGBT community. As part of the project staff were interviewed about their experience in relation to LGBT people and the people they looked after. This was captured on a video which was shared nationwide to help other providers learn about this topic.
