Nottinghamshire nursing home among England’s very best

A Nottinghamshire nursing home has become one of only a handful of services to achieve five out of five ‘outstanding’ CQC ratings.

The Byars Nursing Home in Caythorpe received the perfect CQC rating following an inspection in April.

Philip Mabbott, who owns and manages the home with his sister Verity Hallam, said: “We have the privilege of working with a talented, caring and committed team of staff and we are delighted that we all get recognition for the outstanding service we provide at The Byars.”

Verity added: “We have seen many changes over the last 26 years and we are looking forward to evolving in the future, improving on our outstanding service for the benefit of the people who use it.  This is also an opportunity to briefly reflect on past successes and thank all the people who have supported us.”

The Commission’s report said the service clearly demonstrated how it continued and consistently met the characteristics of providing exceptional care. People were at the heart of the service and  staff were clearly committed and compassionate, striving to provide excellent care at all times.

The CQC added there was a homely welcoming atmosphere at the service and it observed very positive and caring relationships between people and the staff who cared for them. Inspectors commented that staff worked hard to promote people’s right to make their own decisions about their care where possible and respected the choices they made. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.
