Orchard Care Homes has announced that COO Hayden Knight (pictured) will replace Tom Brookes as CEO as it embarks on its next phase of restructuring.

The Harrogate-based care home provider said Tom was stepping down after leading its transformation over the last two years.

Ian Goulding, the Chairman of Orchard Care Homes said: “I can confirm that Tom Brookes will be stepping down from his role as CEO.  After six years with the company, holding a number of senior management posts, including MD of Larchwood Care Homes and CEO of Lifestyle Care Homes, Tom led a radical transformation programme in Orchard.

“Tom has improved the quality of the homes and developed plans for the financial sustainability of the business.  He has put a highly experienced team in place, and has now appointed his successor, Hayden Knight.

“The Board would like to thank Tom for his enormous contribution over the last six years and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Hayden joined Orchard Care Homes in May and has 23 years’ experience within the industry, holding senior positions with one of the largest providers of specialist care in the UK.  Orchard said Hayden would continue to focus on quality, whilst making the organisation sustainable for the future.

The care home provider said the changeover of leadership came at a vital time as it looked to reduce its portfolio by 25%.

The transition of 14 homes, which is being managed by Simon Harrison, Chief Restructuring Officer, includes exit from six Target Healthcare REIT homes.

Commenting on the move, a Target Healthcare REIT spokesperson said: “The Company is continually preparing for such contingencies and is in active discussions with alternative care home operators to ensure an orderly handover of operations with minimal disruption to the residents. The Company expects to continue to receive rental income from the six assets up until the end of the year and has a further four months of rental deposits held in reserve.”
